Transcript of a letter from the US Embassy in Athens, Greece to Photographer Andrew Prokos
AMBASSADOR OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
ATHENS, GREECE

Mr. Andrew Prokos

Dear Mr. Prokos:
Thank you for taking part in the Embassy’s first Greeks Gone West video project. The videos were posted throughout July on the Greek and English language sites of leading Athens daily Kathimerini, as well as on our own website and social media. We have had a terrific response so far, with an average of 5,000 to 8,000 views per day, over 65,000 people reached so far through our Facebook page, hundreds of likes and shares, and several requests to rerun the whole series.
Your story, as a part of the series, allowed us to achieve our goal of portraying the world of work in the United States through the experiences of Greek-Americans in business, journalism, entertainment, and medicine. (You can watch the 23 short videos at http://www.kathimerini.gr/greeks-gone-west and of course on the Embassy’s own website.) The State Department’s Bureau of International Information Programs is looking at the series as a model for how to highlight diaspora groups in their countries of ancestry. Earlier this week I had my first meeting with one of our Greek-American stars profiled in the series, and I look forward to meeting more of you. Thank you again for participating in this project.
Sincerely,
David D. Pearce
