High Resolution Stock Photo FAQs

Who holds the copyright to the photos on your website?

Andrew Prokos holds the copyright to all the photos on this website and reserves all rights to use, reproduce, distribute, license or sell any photo found on this website. Each photo exhibited on this website is copyrighted with the United States Copyright Office in Washington D.C. New photos are submitted to the Copyright Office on a quarterly basis as they are produced. Each photo on our website is watermarked with the photographer's copyright notice in the form of "© Andrew Prokos. All Rights Reserved." It is a violation of the Copyright Act to remove or tamper with the copyright information found on any copyrighted material, including the photos found on this website.

What is the difference between rights-managed (RM) and royalty-free (RF) photos?

Royalty free photos allow you to pay one flat price for an photo and use it any way you like. Rights managed photos are priced according to a set of factors, including the intended use of the photo, the photo size, the duration of use, and the distribution of the photo. When you license a rights managed photo, you aren't buying a digital photo, but rather the rights to use that photo in a specific way and for a specific period of time. In general, most high quality photographic photos are rights managed, while lower quality photos tend to be royalty free.

How much does licensing a high-resolution photo cost?:

The cost of licensing an photo is not fixed and depends on several factors including the photo size, print run, and duration of use. Since these factors are unique to each license it is impossible to quotes license prices without knowing the usage details. Our pricing is competitive with rights-managed photo pricing at any major stock house. It is always a good idea to check rights-managed pricing for similar photos with the stock houses first before contacting us for a price quote. Since our pricing will almost always fall within a similar range you will get an idea of whether licensing our photos suits your budget. You will also be able to judge the difference in quality between the photos we offer and those found elsewhere.

How do you calculate pricing for your photo licenses?:

Our pricing is determined by using photo pricing software and by consulting photo industry pricing charts. FotoQuote is the industry standard software for stock photo pricing and uses a database of recent sales across the country to generate a price range for an photo license. Pricing for any particular rights-managed ("RM") photo is rarely the same as for a similar photo found elsewhere, but does usually fall within a range of around 10% above or below pricing found elsewhere. When comparing photo pricing from various sources it is important to compare RM photos to other RM photos, and not to royalty-free ("RF") photos. RF photos are based on a different pricing model and are invariably of lower quality than RM photos. Andrew Prokos Photography only offers the highest quality RM photos, we do not aim to compete with RF stock houses nor to match their pricing.

What file format and resolution are your licensed photos distributed in?

High resolution photos are distributed to our customers in the Adobe Photoshop PDF format. Each photo is password-protected, encrypted, and compressed with JPEG-2000 level 12 compression. We license 300 ppi photos for print use and 72 ppi photos for web and broadcast use. All photos are distributed in 8bit RGB color mode and have an embedded Adobe RGB 1998 color profile. All licensed photos are also captioned with the photo's photo ID#, title, description, copyright info, our contact info and the license details. This info is also embedded in the file. Please note: all licensed photos are cropped according to the usage before they are distributed to customers.

How will I receive the high-resolution photo once I have purchased a license?

An account is automatically created on our server for each new customer that purchases an photo license. Once payment has cleared an email containing the photo download instructions and password is automatically sent to your email address.

Can I purchase digital files to make photo prints myself?

No, we do not license our high-resolution stock photos for the purpose of making prints for home or office decor.
