Archistracts

About This Project

Archistracts is an ongoing series of large-scale abstract photographs by photographer Andrew Prokos, featuring close-up views of architectural details and building facades from cities worldwide.

Using an experimental process, Andrew captures multiple perspectives—often mirrored—to transform concrete, glass, and metal elements into surreal compositions. Architectural details are merged into kaleidoscopic or symmetrical abstractions, and the repeated patterns invite viewers to discover the hidden visual language within urban structures.

While the imagery often feels surreal in tone, the photographs are grounded in an exacting reality. The series is purely lens-based; Andrew does not rely on generative AI to create the images. Instead, he constructs visual abstraction through meticulous capture and careful composition. The materiality of the structures is another important part of the series. By selectively focusing on highly polished surfaces, concrete facets, and other details, Andrew shifts architecture from functional to visually fascinating. The large scale of the resulting images from Archistracts (up to 120 inches in size) renders them as monumental and immersive artworks that stand on their own.
