Inverted Met #2
A black and white photograph of the Metropolitan Museum interior, from Andrew's negative-image photography series 'Inverted'....
Inverted is an ongoing series that revisits well-known locations in New York and other cities, such as Times Square, Central Park, and Grand Central Terminal. Stripped of color and inverted, light and shadow take on a new significance in these scenes, inviting the viewer to question their perception of the familiar.
My fascination with the process stems from the days when I shot and processed my own negative film. At the time digital methods were not readily available, so I printed the negatives on reversal papers to achieve the intended result. The earlier images from Inverted were also captured on film, and the series eventually transitioned to digital capture and printing techniques. Experimental in nature, Inverted connects the idea of traditional photography technique to contemporary subject matter, lending a sense of timelessness and introspection to the images.
